German Pancakes

We love this recipe in Young Women's, because it is a recipe for comfort food that is student-budget friendly. It can be elegant for two or quick protein for a crowd. It's also easy to memorize (notice the 1/2+1/2+1/2 pattern.)

Melt up to half a stick of butter in a pan at 400 in the oven. (Choose a pie pan to serve 3 or a 11x13 pan to serve 6)
Mix eggs and milk. (1/2 cup milk & 3 eggs for 3 people. 1 cup milk & 6 eggs for 6 people)
Add flour and salt. (1/2 cup flour & 1/2 tsp salt for 3. 1 cup flour & 1 tsp salt for 6)
Pour into the melted butter and bake for 15 min.

Enjoy drizzled with syrup, dusted with powdered sugar, topped with fruit or served with favorite omelet toppings.

Happy Independence Day!

Elder Ballard gave a wonderful talk in the October 2008 Sunday Afternoon session called, "The Test." It's a longer talk, but is a great one for study as we celebrate the Fourth of July and was a part of today's lesson. You can see the video online at http://lds.org/conference/sessions/display/0,5239,23-1-947,00.html

In his talk, Elder Ballard mentions the tragic persecution of the early saints while our country was quite young. He goes on to describe the patriotism of the saints despite that persecution. The Saints understood the importance of freedom very personally through their own and also through their recent ancestors' experiences as they sought religious freedoms and helped to establish the society we are blessed to live in today.
